Letter to the editor: Five town community has time to delay decisions
In response to the letter to the editor from Mt. Abe staff members (June 17 edition), the MAUSD Reimagined group agrees with the teachers at the high school. We want to keep both the elementary schools and the high school open, and in an ideal world that’s exactly what would happen.
However, based on the financials that the central office provided this year, that was simply not an option while we were drafting our proposals. We are more than open to other solutions that keep our town elementary schools and Mount Abraham Union High School open, but we have yet to hear any and meanwhile, our elementary schools are being stripped of resources.
Based on another proposal looking at potential legislative changes as well as the information shared in Caleb Elder’s recent letter, it seems like there’s some time to delay these decisions in hopes that legislative action changes things for the better. Maybe that’s wishful thinking, but there’s a better chance of that if all of us in the five town community combat the hurried efforts together, rather than disagreeing among each other about different proposals.
