Vermont State Police Log: Alleged attacker tries to get away by hanging on a car

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are reporting that when the victim of an alleged assault in Ripton last week tried to flee the scene, the attacker hung on to the outside of the car and was pulled a substantial distance.

Troopers said they were called to a Billings Farm Road address at around 11 a.m. on June 8 on a report of an assault. After interviewing people and viewing evidence, the police officers determined that Peter Kosmorsky, 28, had assaulted a man from Homer, Alaska, after unlawfully trespassing on the property.

As the victim was attempting to get away from the assault in his vehicle, Kosmorsky clung to the side of his vehicle and was dragged for approximately one-tenth of a mile down a gravel driveway while still assaulting the victim before falling away into a ditch, Cpl. Justin Busby reported.

State police arrested Kosmorsky and cited him for aggravated assault and unlawful trespass.

Kosmorsky sustained minor abrasions and bruising, and the victim showed minor lacerations to both arms.

Separately, state police are looking for help finding the driver of a pickup that crashed in a Cornwall ditch on pre-dawn hours Saturday.

On June 12 at a few minutes before 4 a.m. troopers responded to a single vehicle crash into a ditch on Swamp Road in Cornwall. When they arrived, nobody was with the 2016 Toyota Tacoma, and they suspect alcohol impairment was a contributing factor. Anyone with information on this crash and of the driver of the Tacoma is asked to contact the New Haven state police barracks at (802) 388-4919.

The pickup was considered a total loss.

In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:

•  On June 12 at about 1:16 a.m. were dispatched to an ATV crash on Route 22A in Addison. Police found that two passengers were being transported to Porter Medical Center, and the driver had left the scene. Troopers said that driver Kyle Delphia, 25, of New Haven contacted them an hour later and voluntarily met with troopers in New Haven.

Police screened Delphia for driving under the influence (DUI). After Delphia requested to be seen by a rescue squad for injuries sustained in the crash, he was transported to Porter Medical Center for an evaluation. He and the two passengers all reportedly sustained minor injuries.

State police cited Delphia for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Vermont State Police were assisted by the rescue squads from Vergennes, Middlebury and Addison, as well as area fire departments.

•  On June 13 at about 7:39 p.m. responded to a report of a family fight at a Tow Path Lane home in Ferrisburgh. Police said Anna Baker, 50, of Ferrisburgh recklessly caused bodily injury to a household member. They arrested Baker and cited her for domestic assault.
