BRIDPORT — Patricia A. Coursey of Bridport, Vt., passed away peacefully at Porter Medical Center with her family by her side on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Patricia was born on April 17, 1939, to Timothy and Helen Babcock in Springfield, Mass.

She attended the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Mass., graduating in 1957. She married the love of her life, Richard Coursey, on February 11, 1961. They moved to Middlebury, Vt., during the late 1960’s with a desire to raise their children in a small town. 

Patricia enjoyed working over the years at a few different occupations, including town clerk assistant, store clerk, paraprofessional at Mary Hogan School, which she loved, and also helping take care of a few elderly people who wanted to remain in their homes.  She loved to volunteer for organizations to raise money for certain causes and also volunteered for the Addison County Court Diversion program. She had a passion for being at the ocean and could sit for hours and take in the view and the ocean air. She loved to go camping, work in her garden and she loved being a grandmother. 

Patricia is survived by four children; Kelly Dragon and her husband Joseph of East Middlebury, Kathy Lawson and her husband Ron of Virginia, Kolleen Hobbs and her husband Albert of East Middlebury, and Richard Coursey of Bridport. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Kattie Lawson, Seth Hobbs, Reese Lawson and Hannah Zeno and her husband Joey; one great-grandson, Lucas Zeno; a sister, JoAnne Lomas and her husband Bill of Mass.; a brother, Timothy Babcock of Mass.; sister in-law and brother in-law Ann and Richard Tanhauser of Shoreham; and several nieces and nephews. 

Patricia was predeceased by her husband Richard Coursey, twin sons Timothy and Thomas Coursey and grandson Kasey Lawson. Most recently she lost Sammy, who was her dog and best friend.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at Porter Medical Center and the Palliative Care Unit for their loving care of Patricia during her final days. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury, with the Rev. Luke Austin as the celebrant.

Burial to follow at the Case Street Cemetery in Middlebury.
