Campaign seeks donations for Rusch family

WALTER “BILL” RUSCH

BRISTOL — After the unexpected death of Bristol resident Walter “Bill” Rusch last month, a family friend has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Rusch’s partner, Mary Yates, and daughter, June Yates-Rusch.
“Bill & Mary … have been vibrant players in far-reaching networks of community groups, families, and organizations. Their infectious love of the outdoors and their enduring commitment to the environment, athletics and education have touched and improved all of our communities,” wrote Kim Martin of Burlington on the fundraising page. “We know that people near and far want to help support Mary and June.”
Rusch, 63, was reported missing on April 16. According to Vermont State Police he was believed to have been on foot and may have been spotted in downtown Bristol that morning. He had not taken his personal effects with him.
After more than a week of searching, his family found his remains in a wooded area near his home. Police have said the circumstances surrounding Rusch’s death aren’t suspicious.
“Mary and June are just beginning their paths to healing and we’d like to ease some of the difficulties they now face by providing financial support,” Martin wrote.
As of Tuesday morning the campaign had raised $11,547 toward its $50,000 goal.
