Vermont State Police Log: Troopers help calm a family dispute
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police responded to a family fight that was reported to involve a firearm on Thursday, April 8, at 7:14 p.m. on Main Street in Orwell.
Troopers calmed the situation and investigated. They came away with the determination that 33-year-old Maurice Minyati of Shoreham had attempted to use a firearm on a household member, but was unsuccessful and nobody was injured.
State police arrested Minyati, and after taking him to the New Haven state police barracks for processing cited him for first degree aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon and lodged him at the Northwest Correctional Facility for lack of $2,500 bail.
In a separate incident, troopers were dispatched on April 9 at 11:42 p.m. to assist the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a man who was described as out of control at a home in the Hollow Road area of Monkton. After investigating, police determined that 25-year-old Matthew Cousino of Monkton intentionally damaged property owned by a 51-year-old Monkton.
VARS evaluated Cousino and took him to Porter Medical Center. Matthew was issued a citation to appear before the Addison County Superior Court’s Criminal Division on June 7 hours to answer to a charge of unlawful mischief.
