MIDDLEBURY — Our father, Daniel Leonard Ahearn, passed away on Friday, April 2. We are his children — Colin and Haley, and we surrounded him with love and comfort as he passed.
He was born and raised in Framingham Mass., by his mother Mary and father Joseph. He had eight brothers and two sisters. The family was energetic, hard-working and devoted to Boston sports teams.
Our father spent his younger years working as a security guard at Fenway Park and Boston Garden. He then studied at Lesley College while working as a special educator at The Spear School. This is where he met our mother, Laurie Borden. They moved to Vermont shortly after, where they settled in a cabin behind Breadloaf Nordic Ski Center. In the winters his passion was to groom the trails in the Old Tucker Snowcat. He loved the early morning when the trails were covered in fresh snow and the opportunity to see wildlife was at a peak.
His passion was thinking like a raindrop. Artists work in many different mediums. Our father’s medium was slate and copper. His muse was the old churches, barns and homes of Vermont. The number of roofs his artistry touched is innumerable. When not working his lawn and gardens were his focus. A cherry tree in honor of our grandmother was his favorite spot to sit and contemplate life.
He was incredibly kind and honorable. His love for us is endless.
