Vermont State Police Log for Apr. 1
ADDISON COUNTY — Detectives assigned to the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations on March 4 began an investigation into a suspected case of physical abuse of a child. Police determined that Kori Martell, 29, of Whiting had assaulted a five-year-old household member causing injury.
In the course of the investigation state police said they found that Martell violated previous court ordered conditions of release stemming from a separate incident and provided false information to police in order to deflect the investigation.
On March 23, Martell came to the New Haven state police barracks, where he was cited for domestic assault, violations of conditions of release and giving false reports to law enforcement authorities.
In other recent activity, Vermont State Police troopers:
• On March 23 at 9:25 a.m. responded to the report of a car vs. truck crash on Route 22A in Orwell near the Shoreham line. Troopers report that Keith Porter, 42, Plattsburg, N.Y., was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang northbound when his vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided with a southbound tractor-trailer driven by Jeffrey Leavitt, 46, of Willsboro, N.Y.
Porter was extricated from his vehicle and airlifted to UVM Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Leavitt was transported by ambulance to Porter Medical Center for minor injuries.
Porter’s Mustang sustained severe frontend damage, and Leavitt’s 1998 International sustained considerable damage to its driver’s side front area.
Traffic on Route 22A was shut down for about two and a half hours while crews worked on the scene.
The Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Middlebury Regional EMS, the Orwell and Shoreham fire departments, Orwell First Response, and the Vermont Agency of Transportation and Life Net Air.
This crash is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Vermont State Police at (802) 388-4919.
• On March 27 at around 8:30 a.m. responded with the Bristol Rescue Squad and the Bristol and Starksboro fire departments to a report of a one-car crash with an unresponsive male in the vehicle on Quaker Street in Starksboro. Authorities found the car in a ditch with the driver unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Logan Willey of Lincoln, became responsive after first responders administered multiple doses of NarCan.
The ambulance took Willey to UVM Medical Center. Ultimately, troopers arrested Willey for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. They released Willey into the care of the medical personnel at the hospital, and police said they will cite him later, pending the results of a drug analysis.
• On March 29 were sent to calm a family fight at a North Main Street home in Whiting. Troopers investigated and determined that Martin Landon, 50, of Whiting had inflicted pain on a household member. They arrested Landon, took him to the New Haven barracks for processing and cited him for first degree aggravated domestic assault and violation of conditions of release. Police also issued more conditions of release to Landon.
