BRANDON — With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of William “Bill” Fleming, age 72, on Friday, March 5, 2021, at his home in Brandon.
Bill was born in Middlebury on July 20, 1948. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Fleming and Alice Hastings; and siblings Arlene Brown, Sonny Fleming, Betty Holcomb, Carolyn Tuller and Michael Fleming.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darcie; his three daughters, Kimberly St. Martin (Haase), Dawn Fleming (Melvin Iron Shirt) and Tammy Fleming; grandchildren Katy, Kirsten, Shyanne, Draden, Elisa, Brittany, Drexler, Raelee, Ty, Tommy, Jayla, Kyle, Chelsea, Hailey, Riley and Zach; great-grandchildren Riete, Nitana, Noah, Briella, Ayden, Alexis Ann and Daxlynn; and his stepson, Skyler. He is also survived by siblings Theresa Bouger, Jan Calkins, Sandy Tebbetts, Bertha Benjamin, Evelyn Sackett, Netta Stalker and Tom Fleming, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill had various occupations over his life, and was a travelling man, having lived in Washington, Oregon and Montana, but home was always Vermont. He moved to Alberta, Canada, where he married the love of his life, Darcie, on Oct. 7, 2006, after meeting her at Kimberly’s wedding. Bill was a kind, funny and would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it. He was a friend to all. If Bill stopped to chat you knew you were going to be there awhile.
Bill always encouraged and inspired Darcie and his daughters, saying “I believe in you and your dreams,” and he did all that was possible to make that happen. Bill had a love for fishing and hunting, and spent many hours traveling the backroads looking for deer tracks.
Bill was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was the most supportive and loving husband and dad, and we are going to miss his laughter, the twinkle in his eye, life advice and hugs. Bill loved so deeply and had a heart of gold. He was an original. Thank you, Bill for all you have done for us, you were truly a gift. A heartfelt thank you to his niece Sonia who did so much for Bill, because we could not be there.
The graveside committal service and burial with Military Honors will take place at a later date in The Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
