Students show art in Brandon

SAWYER DOENGES SHOWS off his artwork.

Despite the challenges facing students and teachers this year, the Brandon Artists Guild (BAG) will proudly host its annual show of new artwork by local students from grades K to 12. The exhibit will be on view through Feb. 28.
The exhibit includes work from students from Otter Valley Union High School, Barstow Memorial, Neshobe Elementary, and Lothrop, Sudbury and Leicester Elementary Schools. This celebration of creativity from our schools gives students an exciting opportunity to have their work displayed in a professional gallery setting. The exhibit also provides the public a rare chance to see talented student work in a wide variety of styles and media. In addition to artwork on the walls, the exhibit includes a video slide show of socially distanced student work.
“It has been a strange year, but working with students to make, talk about, and look at art has been inspiring and motivating,” said Otter Valley art teacher and BAG ceramic artist Dasha Kalisz. “The slide show and photocopies of student work are examples of the modifications taking place in this ‘new normal.’”
“Students were able to use art to take a break and focus on the act of creation,” added Otter Valley art teacher Frannie Willard. “They found ways to express their disappointment, came to realize that they were not alone even though we were all in isolation, and discovered beauty in unexpected places.”
The BAG, at 7 Center Street in Brandon, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sundays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information call (802) 247-4956 or visit BrandonArtistsGuild.org.
