FERRISBURGH — Robert “Bob” Mitchell, 86, of Ferrisburgh, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2020.
He was born in Burlington, Vt., on September 16, 1933, to Elsie Babson Mitchell and Neil Mitchell, and grew up in Vergennes. In 1954, after serving in the U.S. Navy, he married Ellie Root, of Charlotte, raising their family in Ferrisburgh. Bob worked at Simmonds Precision for 35 years, taught NRA hunter safety classes, and was a local historian.  With a true passion for this area, he passed on his spark for learning to many. He had many wild adventures as an avid hunter and fisherman.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Kathy Mitchell of Panton, Carol Mitchell of South Burlington, and Betsey Mitchell of Vergennes; and three loving grandchildren, Allison Scout Myrick of Vergennes, Dylan Myrick of Ferrisburgh, and Mitchell Jackman of Waltham. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Rheal Gevry of Addison. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ellie; sisters Nancy Mitchell, Shirley Collette, Loraine Bibeau and Gail Gevry; and infant brother Gary.
