BRISTOL — Like so much sound and fury signifying nothing, false alarms continue to plague the Bristol Police Department.
On Nov. 6, a motion-activated alarm was triggered by a hanging sign, on Nov. 8 one was activated by a balloon, and on Nov. 10 police received notice of an alarm activation only to have it later rescinded by the alarm company.
Between Nov. 2 and Nov. 15, Bristol police completed 21 foot patrols and three car patrols in various parts of town, some of which were part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Officers checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School (MAUHS) 12 times, at Bristol Elementary School seven times, and at local businesses nine times; completed at least 14 fingerprint requests; verified two vehicle identification numbers; and facilitated the return of one lost debit card, one lost wallet, one lost cellphone and one loose dog.
The department also assisted South Burlington Police twice, Vermont State Police once and Bristol Rescue once.
In other recent activity, Bristol police:
•  On Nov. 2 responded to a report of trespass and served a notice against trespass.
•  On Nov. 3 served a notice against trespass.
•  On Nov. 4 helped MAUHS with a truancy issue.
•  On Nov. 5 helped MAUHS with a truancy issue.
•  On Nov. 5 helped someone obtain mental health services.
•  On Nov. 8 responded to a report of people in the roadway, but they were gone before police arrived.
•  On Nov. 9 helped someone get information regarding a civil issue.
•  On Nov. 9 completed a local records check.
•  On Nov. 9 received a found cellphone and attempted to identify the owner.
•  On Nov. 11 began investigating a theft complaint.
•  On Nov. 11 began investigating a report of damage done to a vehicle parked on South Street.
•  On Nov. 11 completed trainings on email fraud, cognitive interviewing and courtroom testimony.
•  On Nov. 12 helped a juvenile find transportation from school.
•  On Nov. 13 helped someone with property retrieval.
•  On Nov. 13 helped someone retrieve property per a court order.
•  On Nov. 13 began investigating a violation of conditions complaint.
•  On Nov. 13 served paperwork on someone.
•  On Nov. 15 responded to a 911 hang-up, which turned out not to be an emergency.
