John Henry Dutra Morris, 59, longtime Middlebury resident
MIDDLEBURY — John Henry Dutra Morris, longtime resident of Middlebury, and more recently of Bennington, passed away on Sept. 7, 2020, after a protracted illness. John was born in Rutland in 1961. He was the son of the late Mildred Waite (Morris) Fogel and the late Henry Dutra Morris (of Rutland), and stepson of the late Samuel Fogel (of Middlebury).
John was an avid fisherman and versatile musician, playing guitar, drums and piano. Unfortunately, his deteriorating health did not allow him to continue to participate in these activities. As a young man, John also called California and Utah home, and drove across the country more than once.
John has numerous nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. who fondly remember him as a joker and prankster. Having been preceded in death by his sister Deborah Willard, he leaves behind a brother, Henry Ernest Dutra Morris of Barnett, Mo. and four sisters; Anne Buck, of Weybridge, Vt.; Lillian Godwin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Susan Morris of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Martha Arias of Orlando, Fla. He also leaves behind his dear friend, Amy Rochon of East Middlebury.
The family will hold memorial services for John in the spring of 2021 (coronavirus allowing) in Rupert and Middlebury.◊
