Hirschfield Film Series goes virtual

'BOYS STATE' IS the first offering in this year’s Hirschfield International Film Series at Middlebury College. The film will screen virtually on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. This year’s series will be a strictly virtual event.

As with its music performances, Middlebury College’s Hirschfield International Film Series is adapting to COVID-19 with a virtual film series this year. The series will offer extraordinary foreign and independent films, streamed online most Saturdays via Virtual Cinema Starting on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m., with the film “Boys State.”
“Boys State” is a wildly entertaining and continually revealing immersion into a week-long annual program in which 1,000 Texas high school seniors gather for an elaborate mock exercise: building their own state government.
The 2020 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Tour will air the following week on Saturday, Sept. 19, with the time yet to be determined. The Film Tour (Virtual Version) is an 80-minute theatrical program of six short films selected from this year’s festival.
The college’s campus is closed to visitors, so all screenings will be virtual. Hirschfield patrons will need to register in order to view the films. Each week and each film will have slightly different attendance caps and viewing restrictions, according to developments as they happen.
The Hirschfield International Film Series runs from September through May. The films are free and open to the public. Dates and times may vary. To register go to middlebury.edu/academics/fmmc/hirschfield/2020-2021.
