Vermont State Police Log: Troopers deal with speeding, fraud
ADDISON COUNTY — In the first eight days of June, Vermont State Police at the New Haven barracks reported on three incidents (one in Chittenden County), and troopers from another barracks reported a call for help in Addison County.
During that period, troopers:
• On June 3 at 9:07 p.m. saw a vehicle northbound on Route 7 in Shelburne at a high rate of speed. Police allege that Tobias H. Yandow, 27, of Burlington drove 90 mph in a 50 mph zone, and the New Haven–based trooper cited him for speeding.
• On June 4 at approximately 9 p.m. were told about a hit-and-run crash on Lake Dunmore Road in Leicester. Police heard that a vehicle struck a juvenile riding a bicycle and fled from the scene without stopping to render aid or identify themselves. The cyclist was tended to by the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, and was transported to Porter Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The juvenile stated the vehicle that fled was a silver car, possibly a Honda, and was headed north toward Fern Lake Road. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the New Haven state police barracks at (802) 388-4919.
• On June 5 at around 10:15 a.m. logged a report that Steven McGuffin, 32, of Hancock had violated an abuse prevention order by entering a Hancock home from which he was prohibited by the court from entering. After investigating, troopers cited McGuffin for violation of abuse protection order and unlawful trespass.
• On June 7 announced charges that came from a home improvement fraud report that came in April 29. A Ferrisburgh homeowner told state police that they had hired Jason Abair, 40, of Milton to replace multiple roofs for a residence and adjacent buildings. Abair received a deposit for the project and never began it. The homeowner made multiple attempts to contact Abair to begin the project throughout several months. Police determined that Abair failed to follow a contract between him and the victim and failed to begin the project for which he received partial funds. Troopers cited Abair for home improvement fraud.
