Herrick Fisk Hurlburt, 88, of Monkton

MONKTON — Herrick Fisk Hurlburt Sr. of Monkton, Vt., passed away peacefully March 19, 2020 — the first day of spring. He was born Sept. 8, 1931, to his parents George and Rachael Hurlburt. He grew up on the family farm with his sister Jean (Hurlburt) Smith of New Haven. He attended Beeman Academy in New Haven and then attended Randolph School of Agriculture.
He married Charlotte Leggett from Middlebury and was a loving husband and father. He would often be found riding on his tractor with his wife by his side, bailing hay or checking the fields. He was a lifelong farmer who loved the way of life and he cherished his family.
He enjoyed spending time at Field Days during his younger years. He spent a great amount of time in the sugar woods and enjoyed hunting season, as everyone would make sure to bring their deer to show him. He enjoyed learning about his family history, often studying the genealogy and going to cemeteries with Jim and Johnny Hurlburt.
He is predeceased by his wife, Charlotte (1992). He is survived by his sister Jean; sons Michael, David and Rick (Herrick, Jr.); nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Condolences may be posted online at brownmcclayfuneralhomes.com or mailed to Hurlburt Family 70 Parks-Hurlburt Road New Haven, VT 05472.◊
