Vergennes Police Log: Winooski driver cited for DUI, fifth offense

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Jan. 21 cited a Winooski man for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, fifth offense, following a West Main Street traffic stop.
Police said they screened and cited Hassan Nur, 40, of Winooski after they stopped his vehicle for allegedly traveling 47 mph in a 30 mph zone. They also ticketed Nur for speeding and for failing to use an interlock device, which requires a driver to blow into a breathalyzer before starting or continuing to operate a vehicle.
Also between Jan. 20 and 26 police ticketed four vehicles for parking overnight on city streets in violation of the Vergennes winter parking ban, and ordered two of them to be towed. During traffic details police also ticketed one motorist on Main Street and two on Monkton Road.
In other action during those seven days, Vergennes police:
On Jan. 20:
•  On Main Street advised a man whose neighbor had a vehicle towed from a disputed parking place to work the issue out with his landlord.
•  Responded to Valley Vista at Alden to help with a resident who was said to be out of control and hallucinating. An officer spoke with the resident, who calmed down but refused to go to the hospital. Police said the client later said she was going to apologize to the staff and other residents.
On Jan. 21 helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on Main Street.
On Jan. 22:
•  Responded to the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot and told a driver to stop spinning his vehicle’s tires.   
•  Helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on South Maple Street.  
•  Helped New York State Police with a follow-up check on a Waltham resident who had been involved in a domestic dispute; police said the woman was OK.
•  Went to Hopkins Road to help the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a person who had fallen.
On Jan. 23:
•  Responded to a report of a Vergennes Union High School student who had walked out of school without permission; police said she went to her car, calmed down and then returned to the school on her own.
•  Assisted the Vermont Department of Probation and Parole by issuing another arrest warrant for a male who had been arrested earlier in the week and had violated his conditions of probation.
•  Began investigating the report of the theft of a pair of gloves from a Northlands Job Corps student’s room, allegedly by a staff member.
On Jan. 24 began investigating a reported assault involving two VUHS students.
On Jan. 25:
•  Looked into a report that a package had been delivered to the wrong Thomas Circle address.
•  Went to Shellhouse Mountain Road in Ferrisburgh to help VARS with an unruly patient.
On Jan. 26 helped a driver whose anti-theft alarm would not shut off on a car parked on Main Street.
