MUHS boys’ hockey tops Rutland
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team on Tuesday defeated visiting Rutland, 4-1, in a Division I matchup.
The Tigers improved to 7-5, good for sixth-place in the 10-team league, just behind Stowe (6-4) as of early on Wednesday. Rutland dropped to 2-8-2. The Tigers will next host third-place Spaulding on Friday at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday the Tigers took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Ryan Nadeau and Joey Niemo.
Raider Ethan Coarse made it 2-1 early in the second, but Tucker Stearns answered for MUHS soon afterward. Bode Rubright added an insurance goal midway through the third period. Nine Tigers picked up assists in a balanced effort.
Tiger goalie Zeke Hooper made 28 saves, and Rutland goalie Maguire Baker made 19 saves.
