MUHS gymnasts excel vs. Wolves
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School gymnastics team on Jan. 15 defeated visiting South Burlington, 102.25-96.6, with its best performance of the season, and followed that up with an even higher score in winning at Randolph on Monday, 106.7-104.95.
Coach Natalia Harthman said the Tigers improved their score by seven points over their previous meets in picking up the victory at South Burlington.
In that meet Carly Burger earned two individual wins and Mary Johnson one for the Tigers. Fair Haven independent Julianna Williams tied or outpointed them and SBHS gymnasts in three events, but her scores did not count in the team standings.
In the individual disciplines and the all-around, the top finishers were:
• Vault: 1. Williams, FH, 7.9; 2. Sarah Henry, SB, 7.6; 3. Burger, M, 7.55; 4. Alyza Alger, M, 7.5.
• Bars: 1. Johnson, M, and Williams, FH, 6.0; 3. Marisa Biddle, S, 5.4; 4. Alger, M, 5.1.
• Beam: 1. Cece Leduc, S, 7.9; 2. Carly Burger, M, 7.2; 3. Johnson , M, 6.6.
• Floor: 1. Williams, FH, 8.0; 2. Burger, M, 7.8; 3. Alger, M, 7.4; 4 Johnson, M, 7.2.
• All-around: 1. Burger, M, 26.55; 2. Leduc, S, 26.4; 3. Johnson, M, 26.3.
Against Randolph Burger and Alger led the way for MUHS in the tight victory. Last names for Randolph gymnasts were not available.
The top scorers were:
• Vault: 1. Williams, FH, 7.7; 2. Burger, M, 7.5; 3. Alger, M, 7.3; 4. Kylee Ellis, M, 7.2.
• Bars: 1. Williams, FH, 6.9; 2. Alger, M, 6.1; 3. Eddie, R, and Johnson, M, 5.4; 5. Burger, M, 5.1.
• Beam: 1. Beatrice, R, 8.4; 2. Makayla, R, and Alger, M, 8.0; 4. Phoebe, R, 7.8; 5. Burger, M, and Williams, FH, 7.6.
• Floor:1. 1. Williams, FH, 7.6; 2. Burger, M, 7.35; 3. Beatrice, R, and Alger, M, 7.2; 5. Rosa, R, 7.0.
• All Around: 1. Williams, FH, 29.80; 2. Alger, M, 28.60; 3. Burger, M, 27.55; 4. Beatrice, R, 27.20.
