In girls’ hoop, VUHS and Mt. Abe prevail

ADDISON COUNTY — Vergennes defeated Middlebury for its first victory to highlight local high school girls’ basketball games played this past Friday. Elsewhere, Mount Abraham picked up its fifth straight victory, and Otter Valley dropped a home game to a Division III title contender.
VUHS OVER MUHS
The Commodores used a balanced effort to dispatch the Tigers, 56-34. Emily Rooney led the way with 11 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and eight steals, and Felicia Poirier (11) and Kate Gosliga (10) scored in double figures. Sophie Hatch and Jordan Jewell added seven points apiece as VUHS moved to 1-3.
Freshman forward Ele Sellers notched a game-high 18 points for the 2-5 Tigers.
EAGLES RISE
The Eagles won their fifth straight by defeating visiting Lyndon, 39-26, after taking a 26-10 halftime lead. Chloe Johnston (14 points, 4 steals) and Grace Harvey (eight points, 12 rebounds) paced the Eagles as they improved to 5-2 with another strong defensive effort.
OTTERS FALL
Windsor (7-1) subdued the Otters, 61-48, as Yellowjacket standout Olivia Rockwood poured in 30 points. Windsor’s 19-8 second-quarter edge was pivotal.
Senior forwards Livia Bernhardt (17 points) and Leah Pinkowski (16) kept OV in the hunt, and Alia Edmunds added eight as OV dropped to 2-4.
