FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh Grange “King Pede” card parties are scheduled for the Saturdays of Nov. 9 and 23. These get-togethers are held at the Ferrisburgh Town Hall and Community Center and begin at 6:30 p.m. with a sandwich supper and then on to an evening of fun and card games. King Pede is an unusual game that involves “trick-taking” techniques such as in Hearts and Spades or Pitch. This is a game of fun and skill so come prepared to use your strategic thinking!
The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum has several fall offerings, however their regular summer tours and events are not available during the winter months. There will be a few more team rowing events and also the bladesmithing workshops will continue throughout the winter. There will also be sessions for teachers and special events for students through the winter and spring, so please visit the Museum’s website (lcmm.org) for the dates and details.
Keep in touch with the Bixby Library’s November events at bixby.org. Just a few of the offerings are writing and painting workshops, Tai Chi, computer tech help, and children’s’ story hours. The Second Friday Movie Night (a.k.a. the First Friday Movie Night) will air the film “Holes.” This event is in partnership with the Vergennes Boy Scouts, who chose this film. The story is of a wrongfully convicted boy who is sent to a brutal desert detention camp where the boys need to dig holes for a mysterious reason.
The film, based on the novel by Louis Sachar, is a meaningful story and appeals to all generations. “Holes” is rated PG-13 and will be shown at the Bixby Community Room beginning at 6 p.m., on Nov. 8. As always free popcorn and comfy chairs and couches will be provided. Feel free to bring in drinks and snacks.
Our area schools are continuing through the fall semester and we wish the best to all the students and their families. There are many activities scheduled that engage students and their families. The Choral and Instrumental Concerts are fast approaching along with the famous VUHS Musical! This year the production will be “Elf the Musical,” the story of Buddy the Elf and his quest to find his true identity. The show dates are November 14-16 and tickets are available at the school or at Sweet Charity. Please visit the schools’ websites and social media to learn of other events and volunteer opportunities and the ways in which we, as a community, can support our children and schools.
Organizations such as the Ferrisburgh PTO and the Commodore Boosters always welcome parent and community involvement. There is more info at Ferrisburgh Central School, ferrisburghcentral.org. and Vergennes Union Middle/High School vuhs.org.
