Ralph Chester “Chet” Jewell, 77, of Vergennes
VERGENNES — Chet passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, peacefully, after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Monkton on Sept. 24, 1942, to Ernest and Ina (Thurston) Jewell.
He lived in Monkton most of his life, wintering in Lake Placid, Fla. since 1991. Chet was a truck driver for over 50 years. Driving a Peterbilt truck was his passion.
Chet is survived by his wife of 56 years Joyce (Shepard) Jewell; his five children, Lori, Tina, James (Sue), Glen (Kim) and Danny Jewell; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Melissa, Brian, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Akara; several great-grandchildren; his very special two sisters Viola (Rolland) Brace and Avonia Conant; and a brother-in-law Charles (Dawn) Shepard.
He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Ina Jewell and his mother-in-law Helen Shepard Lebeau.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol from noon to 2 p.m., and a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, Attn: Wayland Wish’s, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
