ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were called to a one-car crash on Fern Lake Road near Shackett Road in Leicester on Aug. 31 at a few minutes after 9 p.m. Troopers found a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country off the north side of the road with airbag deployment.
They reported that driver Jesse Phillips, 38, of Leicester was unhurt in the crash, and he showed signs of alcohol impairment.
Police took Phillips into custody, processed him and cited him for driving under the influence and for driving with a criminally suspended license.
In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:
• On Aug. 24 at were told that a female juvenile had been injured by the discharge of a BB gun around 7 p.m. off Fisher Road in Orwell. Further investigation convinced police that Zachary Mason, 20, of Middlebury inadvertently discharged the BB Gun causing injury to the girl. This act is believed to be unintentional. Mason voluntarily came to the New Haven Barracks where he was issued a criminal citation for reckless endangerment and released.
• On Aug. 29 at approximately 10:54 a.m. became aware of a disabled single-axle dump truck on the bridge at mile marker 13 of Interstate 89 in Sharon, and were told that the truck was broken down in the travel lane. While en route, troopers learned that a 58-foot moving truck driven by Cody Hough, 28, of Ferrisburgh had collided with the dump truck, which was driven by Robert Blake, 57, of Thetford.
Sharon Fire and Rescue, Hartford Rescue and Fire, South Royalton Rescue, Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement, and Agency of Transportation personnel all responded to the scene along with state police.
Police found the moving truck facing northbound in the southbound lane on its side with the contents of the truck dumped all over the roadway. Hough and passenger had to be extracted and were transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The dump bed detached from the frame of the truck during impact, spilling firewood all over the roadway. Blake also had to be extracted from his truck and was transported to the same hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police reported that their initial information showed that the movers truck was southbound on Interstate 89 in the right lane when it failed to move over for the disabled dump truck. Distraction appears to be a contributing factor to this crash, troopers said.
Interstate 89 Southbound from Exit 3 to Exit 2 was closed to remove the vehicles from the roadway and clean up spilled fluids. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact Trooper Patrick Tingle at the Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
• On Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. were told that a family member said David Bristol, 20, of Monkton violated a final order of protection. Police investigated and determined that Bristol had violated several of the protection order conditions at a Boro Hill Road home, and they cited him for violation of an abuse prevention order.
