Commodore girls’ soccer routs Randolph
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team on Tuesday rolled to an 8-0 victory over visiting Randolph in the season opener for both teams.
Senior midfielder Emily Rooney led the Commodores’ attack with four goals, and a rebuilt VUHS defense did not allow a shot on goalie Kate Gosliga.
Four other Commodores scored. Felicia Poirier scored and assisted a Rooney goal, and Rhode Miguel, Hannah Kelly and Ali Croke also found the net. Maya Praamsma, Elsa Makelainen, Leah Croke, Sydney Weber and Ema Gernander picked up assists for VUHS. Randolph goalie Kaylee Thayer made 19 saves.
The Commodores will host Lake Division rival Rice on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in what should be a tougher challenge.
