Boys’ hoop: Only Tigers prevail
ADDISON COUNTY — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball teams picked up a key road win earlier this week, but the Vergennes and Otter Valley boys came up short.
Mount Abraham (8-11) was idle, but will visit VUHS on Thursday as their regular seasons conclude. Teams play their final regular season games this week, and playoff pairings will be announced on Monday morning.
TIGERS
On Monday the Tigers improved to 15-3 with a 68-52 win at Milton. Tyler Buxton (26 points, five steals, four assists) and Parker Beatty (16 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists) paced the Tigers.
The Tigers might need to win their remaining two games, at St. Albans on Thursday and at home vs. Missisquoi, to earn a top-four seed in Division I.
COMMODORES
On Monday visiting Enosburg topped Vergennes, 45-37, although Commodores Kevin Jackson and Josias Salomao tied for game honors with 13 points apiece. VUHS will carry a 4-15 record into Thursday and is most likely looking at a No. 14 or 15 seed in D-II.
OTTERS
The Otters took a loss at Woodstock, 59-50, on Tuesday. Despite result the 11-8 Otters still appear to be to on track for at least a No. 8 seed in D-II with only a Friday home game vs. first-place Mount St. Joseph remaining.
The 7-12 Wasps took charge by outscoring OV in the third period, 19-11, to erase the Otters’ 20-18 halftime lead. Dylan Mackie scored 24 for the Otters.
