City Scouts thank Legion Post 14 for its support

VERGENNES — Vergennes Boy Scout Troop 539 recently recognized the American Legion Post 14 of Vergennes for seventy years of support. In 1947 Post 14 chartered the troop and since then has provided storage, transportation and funding support.
Veterans have long supported Boy Scout troops. The American Legion’s support of the Boy Scouts of America began in 1919 at their national convention. Seventy years of support makes the American Legion Post 14/Troop 539 relationship the longest enduring Legion/B.S.A affiliation in the state of Vermont.
At the December Court of Honor, Troop 539 presented Ralph Wenzel, Troop Sponsor Executive from American Legion Post 14 in Vergennes, with a certificate of appreciation. The Legion’s support has been directly responsible for the continued operation of the troop, which today has 22 active boys ranging from the rank of Scout to Eagle Scout.
Some of the troop’s activities are biking, hiking, camping, and community service projects and much more. It meets at the Vergennes Armory on Sunday nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m., where members work on badges, plan trips, play games, and occasionally have a guest speaker.
There is always room for more participants. Anyone interested in joining or getting more information can contact Scout Master Robert Jewett at 802-877-1094.
