High school soccer teams net wins, tie

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school soccer play earlier this week, the Vergennes girls picked up a road win, the Middlebury girls coasted at home, the VUHS boys earned a tie on the road, and the Otter Valley girls lost a close contest away from home.
VUHS GIRLS
On Tuesday the Commodore girls defeated host Green Mountain Valley, 1-0, in overtime. Morgan Lynk converted the game-winner in a goalmouth scramble following a VUHS corner kick.  
GMVS goalie Sophie Rosen had stopped 13 Commodore bids to that point, including denying five breakaways. VUHS goalie Anya Sonwaldt made nine saves as the Commodores improved to 3-5.
TIGER GIRLS
On Tuesday the MUHS girls cruised past winless Missisquoi, 5-0. Ailey Bosworth (two first-half goals less than a minute apart) and Helen Anderson (goal, assist) led the attack. Meredith Kimble andAbby Gleason also scored; Alice Ganey, Annie Lapiner, Ada Anderson andNora Draper were credited with assists; and the Tigers held the T-Birds without a shot on goal as they improved to 5-3. MVU’s Madison Conley made 18 saves.
VUHS BOYS
On Monday the Commodore boys earned a 1-1 tie at Division I Spaulding. Ezekiel Palmer scored for VUHS for the second-half lead, but Spaulding’s Josh Morrill converted a penalty kick to equalize. Parker Spaulding made one save for the Tide, while VUHS goalie Jeffrey Stearns stopped a dozen shots. The Commodores moved to 4-2-1, good for fifth place in Division III heading into home games on Wednesday vs. Milton and on Saturday vs. Mount Abraham.
OV GIRLS
On Monday host Long Trail School in Dorset got an early goal from Molly Sanderson and solid work in net from Emery Letendre in a 1-0 win over OV. OV Coach Rick Hedding said Otter midfielders Mia Politano, Mary Kingsley, Colby Reynolds andSarah Calvin played well defensively. Goalkeeper Gabby Poalino made saves in 72 minutes, and Sophie Walker stopped three shots in the final three minutes for the 2-6-1 Otters.
