Orwell’s Sydney Smith named salutatorian at Fair Haven Union High School
FAIR HAVEN — Orwell resident Sydney Smith has been named salutatorian of the class of 2017 at Fair Haven Union High School.
Smith’s areas of interests include political science and international relations.
One fantastic opportunity that Smith had during her high school years was traveling with the People to People Ambassador program. This has reinforced her desire to travel and interact with new cultures and people. A significant event that impacted her interests was learning about the Rwanda genocide. This tragic event has been moved and inspired her to promote peace and help others.
This year Sydney Smith has had been able to truly prove herself as a capable college student. She is enrolled in the Early College Program at Castleton University and was named to the President’s List for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. She spends her day on the campus interacting with other college students and taking courses. Her already proven success in higher education is another demonstration of her exceptional capabilities.
FHUHS also announced that Nicole Blackwood of Castleton is co-salutatorian and Vinkel Rasmussen of Fair Haven is valedictorian.
