OVUHS boys win one in b-ball playoffs
EAST CLARENDON — Host No. 1 Mill River ousted the No. 8 Otter Valley Union High School boys’ basketball team from the Division II playoffs on Saturday, 54-33, in a quarterfinal matchup.
The Minutemen got a combined 39 points from Austin McMurray (24) and Mike Morgan (15) in improving to 21-2 and defeating the Otters for the third time this winter.
OV finished at 11-11 after also on Wednesday outlasted visiting No. 9 Milton, 58-50, in a first-round matchup.
The game was tied at the half, 22-22, after OV fought back from an early 16-6 deficit. The Otters took charge with a 13-2 run early in the fourth that erased a 36-35 Milton lead, and then hit their free throws to ice the win.
Derek Aines led OV with 22 points, and Dylan Mackie, Josh Letourneau (17) and Payson Williams (13) hit hoops in the key surge. Ryan Brown led Milton (9-12) with 18 points.
