Letter to the editor: Killing animals for fun is not what a true hunter does
This letter is about the coyote hunt coming up this week.
My dad, a hunter, taught me that killing animals for fun was wrong. I learned that animals were important and to respect them. It was easy to see that they liked being alive as much as I did.
The coyote derby hunt starting this Thursday is a contest to kill the biggest coyote. People also try to kill the most numbers of coyotes and make the biggest piles of dead animals. You can easily find photos online of huge piles of dead coyotes and pick-ups overflowing with carcasses. There’s no legal limit.
There’s a lot of hardship and suffering for all of us animals in this world.
Causing unnecessary pain makes the world a worse place. Calling coyotes “trash” and making piles of their corpses is not respectful to animals, hunting or to being human.
