In girls’ soccer: MUHS wins, Eagles split

ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham bested Vergennes to highlight local high school girls’ soccer play in the latter half of last week as the regular season concluded. In other games, Middlebury picked up a win, the Eagles dropped a road contest, and Otter Valley lost two close games.
The Tigers also visited the Commodores on Saturday morning; see story.
The Vermont Principals’ Association will release playoff pairings on Monday morning.
EAGLES-VUHS
At VUHS on Wednesday, the Eagles scored once early and once late to top the Commodores, 2-0. Abby Mansfield andEmma Carter scored as the Eagles nudged over .500 for the first time heading into their tough Saturday game at Rice. Genysis Berube made four saves for Mount Abe. VUHS goalie Anya Sonwaldt stopped four shots as her team fell to 4-8-1 heading into its Saturday date with MUHS. 
TIGERS
On Wednesday, the Tigers blanked host Missisquoi, 3-0, on two first-half goals by Helen Anderson and a second-half strike from Ada Anderson. The Tigers moved to 5-6-2 heading into Saturday.
OTTERS
On Wednesday, host Windsor (2-11) erupted for three goals in the final 10 minutes to stun OV, 3-2, and deny the Otters a chance at a .500 season. Julia Eastman andOlivia Drew scored for OV, and goalie Gabby Poalino stopped nine shots.
On Friday, visiting Leland & Gray (10-4) edged OV, 1-0, on an Arin Bates direct kick with five minutes to go. Coach Rick Hedding said it was a good game and the Otters will “head into the postseason knowing they played well.” OV (5-9) appears to be the No. 13 seed in Division III and could meet No. 4 Hazen (11-3) in the first round.
EAGLES
On Saturday, host Rice (12-2) topped the Eagles, 3-0. Shots on goal were almost even, with Knights goalie Hannah Miller making eight saves and Berube stopping six shots for the Eagles, who finished 7-7.
The Eagles apparently earned the No. 7 seed in D-II and could host Harwood (6-5-1) in the first round.
