ADDISON COUNTY — In separate incidents in the past week, Vermont State Police say two Bristol men tried to outrun troopers but ended up being taken into custody.
The first took place on Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Andrew Malzac after observing a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to stop when signaled to do so on Lovers Lane in Bristol and continued on to Oak Lane, where it stopped at a residence.
Trooper Neary reported that Malzac failed to comply when informed he was under arrest, and resisted. The trooper took Malzac into custody and transported him to the New Haven state police barracks, where he cited Malzac for attempting to elude and resisting arrest. 
Bristol police assisted state police.
Five days later, a different Bristol man was chased down by troopers in a different part of the state.
On Oct. 10 at 9:15 p.m. a state police officer attempted to stop a motor vehicle driven by Stephen Paquette, 33, after the trooper saw a motor vehicle violation near mile marker 8, northbound on Interstate 93, in Waterford. Police report that Paquette fled from the trooper at a high rate of speed that reached approximately 115 mph on the interstate. Paquette finally came to a stop approximately 6 miles later near mile marker 124 southbound on Interstate 91 in Barnet.
Police said Paquette did not have a valid driver’s license. He was taken to the St. Johnsbury state police barracks and cited for a felony count of attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, reckless endangerment and negligent driving.
In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:
• Went to a single-vehicle crash on Route 7 near Plains Road in Salisbury on Oct. 6 at a little past 5:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, troopers learned that a New England Air Systems Ford F-550 stake body truck had left the roadway, collided with a guardrail and partially overturned. The driver, 23-year-old Jacob Davis of Bristol, was not injured in the crash. Vermont Agency of Transportation personnel were detailed to assist in cutting the guardrail from the undercarriage of the truck.
Neither speed nor intoxicants were considered to be contributing factors to the crash.
No court action was anticipated, but this crash remains under investigation.
• On Oct. 7 at a little before 2:30 p.m. went with the Addison County Sheriff’s Department deputies to a one-car crash on Leicester Whiting Road near Sawyer Needham Road in Whiting. Police said Kyle Cram, 23, of Brandon was driving a 2000 Honda Civic LX westbound when he drifted off the travelled portion of the eastbound lane due to a deflated front driver’s side spare tire. There were no injuries in this incident and no court action was anticipated.
• On Oct. 7 at 8:50 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Burpee Road and Monkton Road in Bristol for a minor traffic infraction. The driver provided a preliminary breath sample that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.147 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police cited Michael H. Ryan, 27, of Hinesburg for driving under the influence of alcohol.
• Began investigating a theft of a yellow Shoremaster floating raft last seen off the shore of Singing Cedars Road in Orwell on Oct. 8 at approximately 10 a.m. The raft is described as 9 feet by 12 feet with a value of approximately $1,300.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven state police barracks at 802-388-4919.
• On Oct. 9 at approximately 5:37 p.m. were notified of a two-car crash with injuries on Route 73 in Sudbury.
Police said that Lori Young, 54, of Brandon was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Route 73 near the intersection with Route 30 when a westbound 2005 Chevy Aveo driven by Morton T. Pecor Jr., 29, of Benson came around a corner too fast, lost control and crashed into the Cherokee. Police report that marks on the roadway and the position of the vehicles indicate the Aveo crossed the center line into the eastbound lane, traveled back across the highway, nearly went off the westbound shoulder, then veered back across the center line again into the eastbound lane where it struck the Cherokee.
The Aveo was judged to be a total loss because of significant damage to its front end, and moderate damage to its passenger side rear quarter panel. The Cherokee sustained significant damage to its front end and driver’s side wheel.
Neither Young nor her passenger was injured.
Pecor, who was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt, was transported by the Brandon Rescue Squad to Porter Medical Center in Middlebury for treatment of significant injuries to his face and head. State police met with Pecor at Porter, and while conversing with him they say he displayed signs of impairment. Pecor volunteered a preliminary breath test, which showed a preliminary breath alcohol content of 0.093 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
Police on Saturday said criminal charges of driving under the influence are pending against Pecor.
• On Oct. 10 at approximately 7:07 a.m. Vermont State Police investigated a reported school bus vs. car crash in Starksboro. Police report that Stephany Fraser, 39, of Starksboro was driving a school bus southbound around an uphill curve on Mason Hill Road and ended up in the northbound lane. At that time, 64-year-old Thomas Leonard of Starksboro was driving a 2016 Honda CRV northbound down Mason Hill Road and he sideswiped the oncoming bus, in which six children were riding. There were no injuries to the children or drivers as a result of this collision. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles Enforcement Division. No court action was anticipated.
• On Oct. 10 at approximately 5:09 p.m. responded with the Charlotte Rescue Squad and Charlotte Fire Department to Mount Philo Road in Charlotte to a two-car crash in which a Ferrisburgh woman was injured. Police report that a 2015 Ford Fusion driven by Kaitlyn Aube, 23, of Charlotte was following a 2014 Chevy Spark driven by Keegan Schofield, 21, of Ferrisburgh southbound on Mount Philo Road. Schofield’s Chevy slowed down for a runner on the side of the road and police said the Ford Fusion failed to recognize this decrease in speed and collided with the rear of Schofield’s vehicle. Schofield was taken to UVM Medical Center with a possible neck injury. Aube, who was uninjured, got a ticket for following too closely. Both cars were towed from the scene.
