Vergennes Legion names Wenzel as new leader
VERGENNES — Forty-five members of the Vergennes American Legion Post 14 were present at a recent meeting to elect Ralph Wenzel to the position of Post Commander.
Commander-elect Wenzel has served the Post for the past several years as sergeant-at-arms and has had many funerals for past Legion members. Wenzel has been a member of the Vergennes Post for 20 years.
Wenzel served in Frankfurt, Germany, for nearly four years as a security officer attached to an Army unit. The unit was moved several times, and each time it moved, the security force went with them. He served in Germany shortly after World War II.
Other members elected are Darin Muzzy, first vice commander; Roger Norton, adjutant; Wally Howard, finance officer; Henry Broughton, service officer; Dennis Armell, sergeant-at-arms; and Michael Jackman, chaplain. Outgoing Commander Paul Paquin will become a Post trustee.
Commander-elect Wenzel will be installed at the July meeting.
