Jay Parini to host talk on Robert Frost at Ilsley on May 4

MIDDLEBURY — Robert Frost biographer Jay Parini will explore the growth and popularity of Frost in a talk at Ilsley Public Library in Middlebury on May 4 at 7 p.m. His talk, “Robert Frost in the World,” is part of the Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesdays lecture series and is free and open to the public.
Parini will look at Frost’s development and how he became America’s favorite poet by writing accessible poems, creating a uniquely appealing persona and pioneering the public reading of poems.
Parini is a poet, novelist and biographer. He is the Axinn Professor of English at Middlebury College, and has also taught at Dartmouth College and Oxford University. He has published numerous novels, books of poetry, and critical and biographical studies, including “Why Poetry Matters,” “Some Necessary Angels,” “The Art of Subtraction,” The Oxford Encyclopedia of American Literature,and “Robert Frost: A Life.”
The Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesdays series talks are free and open to the public.
