Fiddlestcks!’ trio coming to county schools
ADDISON COUNTY — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “Fiddlesticks!” String Trio will present performances at three area schools on March 25. The trio will be at Lincoln Community School at 8:45 a.m., Shoreham Elementary School at 10:45 a.m. and Salisbury Community School at 1:30 p.m.The day is made by possible by Neat Repeats Resale Shop of Middlebury, and an anonymous friend.
Members of Fiddlesticks are David Gusakov of Bristol, violin; Hilary Hatch of Leicester, violin and viola; and Bonnie Klimowski of Fairfax, cello. (They also bring “Godzilla,” the bass fiddle, with them.) Their dynamic performances are designed to introduce children to the most important members of the symphony orchestra and to make some of the key concepts in classical music-making come alive. Longtime members of the VSO, the performers are funny, friendly and interactive — and wonderful musicians.
These performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached over 23,000 schoolchildren last year with 266 presentations serving 151 schools in 113 different communities. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of an outreach program known as the Lois H. McClure “Musicians-in-the-Schools” Program. These lively concerts are met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as the musical ambassadors spread the word that classical music can be fun.
