Addison Associates in OB/GYN, Tapestry Midwifery join practices

MIDDLEBURY — The providers and staff of Tapestry Midwifery and Addison Associates in OB/GYN have been working together in recent months to come together as a single practice soon to be known as Porter Women’s Health.
“The same physicians and certified nurse-midwives whom patients have come to know and trust will continue to work collaboratively to bring them excellent women’s health care and, in May, we will all be under the same roof in Middlebury,” said Porter OB/GYN Dr. Kate Wagner. “Services will remain largely the same with collaboration as needed between groups. In most circumstances, the nurse-midwives and physicians will continue to provide separate call coverage for their pregnant patients,” she added.
According to Wagner, for the next few months, Porter will continue to have two practice locations where patients may schedule with their usual provider. However, if they need to be seen urgently, the midwife or physician who has the next available appointment at either location can see them.
“Our certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are advance practice nurse practitioners with a master’s degree in midwifery and nursing who provide care to women of all ages,” she said. “They specialize in women’s health, pregnancy and childbirth. CNMs discuss and provide birth control options including IUD’s and Nexplanon, conduct annual exams, evaluate common gynecologic complaints, and guide patients through menopause. They will continue to support women through their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Nurse-midwifery services have been offered at Porter Medical Center since 2007.
“Our obstetrical providers work together to provide obstetrical care with an emphasis on low-intervention births whenever possible and are proud of having one of the lowest Caesarean rates in the country,” Wagner continued. “They provide a wide-range of services including comprehensive prenatal care, medical complications of pregnancy, obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound, well woman exams with preventive screening, contraceptive management, infertility evaluation and treatment, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse care, management of abnormal pap smears including colposcopy and LEEP, menopause and aging concerns, as well as provide minimally invasive surgery options for ovarian, tubal and uterine issues including total laparoscopic hysterectomies.
“By bringing together the skills, resources, and talent of the nurse-midwives and the physicians, we will continue to provide excellent care in a more timely manner. The clinicians at Tapestry and Addison Associates have been working together for many years; this merger is a formal continuation and enhancement of the full spectrum of care that our patients have come to appreciate,” Wagner said.
“We are excited about the future of Women’s Health at Porter Medical Center and are committed to enhancing and improving an exceptional patient experience.”
