Bridge on Route 116 in Bristol has re-opened to traffic

BRISTOL — Bridge No. 6, which is located on Route 116 in Bristol a quarter mile south of Carlstrom Road and the new bridge over the New Haven River, re-opened to all traffic this past Thursday.
The bridge closed on July 20 while work crews replaced the span over a small creek that flowed under the road and into the nearby New Haven River; a detour routed traffic out to Route 7.
Route 116 over Bridge No. 6 reopened a day ahead of schedule.
During the closure period, crews dismantled and removed the old bridge and constructed the new bridge using Accelerated Bridge Construction methods. Work to replace the bridge included placing new concrete abutments, a new bridge deck and membrane, new concrete curtain walls and guardrail. The roadway approaches were also reconstructed and paved.
For the next few weeks, crews will work to bring the project to completion. Remaining work on the project includes installation of asphalt bridge joints and aggregate shoulders, line striping and miscellaneous punch list items. While crews work to complete the project, travel will be reduced to one lane over the bridge daily with flaggers present to assist with traffic flow.
Motorists can expect minor traffic delays from daily lane closures on the bridge as crews work to complete the project.
