Legion baseball opens season with road losses

COLCHESTER — The Addison County American Legion baseball team started out its season by dropping three games late last week to perennial Northern Division contenders.
AC had also been set to play two games at Montpelier on Sunday, but bad weather forced those games to be postponed. A new date was not immediately announced.
AC will return to action this Thursday with the first of three more road games before finally hosting a pair of games on Sunday. On Thursday, the local nine will play one game at Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, AC is set for a twin bill at South Burlington starting at 11 a.m. On Sunday, Franklin County visits AC for its home opener; the doubleheader starts at 11 a.m.
This past week, AC opened on June 18 at Colchester, coming up short, 8-3, as Aaron Smith took the pitching loss. The Cannons’ Cory Hemingway tossed five innings and allowed one hit to earn the win.
On June 19, defending champion Essex defeated AC, 17-4, in five innings. Hunter O’Connor took the loss. Dylan Raymond had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, and Chris Leach doubled home a run for AC.
On Saturday, Colchester topped AC, 6-1, as Raymond started on the mound and was charged with the pitching loss for AC.
