MUHS boys’ hockey finished second in N.Y. tournament
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team won two of three recent games to improve to 10-5-2. The Tigers entered this week still in fourth place in Division II with a pair of tough road games on tap, at U-32 (9-7-1) on Wednesday and at first-place Missisquoi on Saturday.
On this past Wednesday the Tigers blanked host Hartford, 4-0, behind the 16-save goaltending of Sawyer Ryan. Nathan Lalonde, Tyler Crowningshield, Andrew Gleason and Brett Viens scored for the Tigers.
On Friday the Tigers lost to Shaker-Colonie (N.Y.), 3-2, in the first round of a four-team tourney at Lake Placid. MUHS took a 2-0 lead on goals by Lalonde and Colton Leno, both set up by Stone, before Shaker-Colonie rallied for the win. Ryan stopped another 16 shots.
On Saturday, the Tigers topped Saranac Lake (N.Y.), 3-0, in the consolation game as Doug DeLorenzo played goal and made 19 saves for MUHS. The Tigers found the net in each period. In the first, Lalonde scored an unassisted goal. In the second, Jerri Niemo made it 2-0 with an assist from Eli Tucker. Leno capped the scoring in the third with an unassisted strike.
