ADDISON COUNTY — The Otter Valley boys defeated visiting Mount Abraham to highlight local high school basketball play late last week.
In other action, the Middlebury boys, Vergennes girls and OV girls all came up short in a light schedule due to exams.
OTTER BOYS VS. EAGLES
In Brandon on Friday, OV’s John Winslow scored 20 points as OV coasted past the winless Eagles, 59-21. Emmett Thurston added 11 as the Otters improved to 8-2.
Jack Willis, Ty Combs and Tyrus Keith scored five points apiece for Mount Abe.
TIGER BOYS
On Saturday, host Burr and Burton improved to 10-1 at the Tigers’ expense, 84-45. Bulldog standout Joey Shehadi scored 28 to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Austin Robinson led the 6-4 Tigers with 13 points.
COMMODORE GIRLS
On Friday, visiting Mt. Mansfield outlasted the Commodores, 44-35. VUHS led for some of the game but could not hold on despite 13 points and 18 rebounds from Nikki Salley, K.C. Ambrose and Sarah Poirier-Thayer added five points each, and Natalie Salley (6 boards, 2 blocks) and Tamara Aunchman (7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 steals) helped the 3-7 Commodores in the paint.
OTTER GIRLS
On Friday, host Springfield rallied for a 47-44 win over the Otter girls, who could not hold onto a 16-point third-quarter lead. Injuries to Sophia Bloomer and Hannah Williams hurt OV’s cause. Lexi Hedding scored 10 to lead OV (3-7), Amy Jones tallied eight, and Laura Beth Roberts chipped in seven.
