1964 Tiger gootball team in homecoming spotlight

MIDDLEBURY — A group of graduates of Middlebury High School and Middlebury Union High School are preparing for a big weekend early next month The MHS-MUHS Alumni Association this week announced its annual Homecoming activities for the weekend of Oct. 3 and 4.
The weekend kicks off with the girls’ soccer team hosting Missisquoi on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
That evening the Tiger football team will host Mount Anthony for a homecoming thriller. At half-time of that game the Tiger football team that graduated in 1965 will be introduced. Also this year’s Hall of Fame inductees will be honored. All players of the class of 1965 as well as past Hall of Fame members are welcome to join the celebration on Doc Collins Field at half-time.
Friday night after the football game, the band Ivory will play at the Middlebury American Legion from 8:30 to 11 p.m. MHS-MUHS alumni members will be admitted free of charge. Memberships to the alumni organization will be on sale at the door.
On that Saturday the boys’ soccer team will host Missisquoi and the field hockey team will host Mount Mansfield; both games are at 10 a.m.
That evening the Hall of Fame and Homecoming Dinner will take place at the Middlebury American Legion. Socializing will begin at 4 p.m., the annual business meeting is at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will follow. After dinner the Hall of Fame will formally induct its newest members. All past Hall of fame Members are encouraged to attend and welcome the newest members. For ticket information to the dinner, call Barb Pratt at 388-2631.
The MHS-MUHS Alumni Association’s mission is twofold, one being to provide opportunities to reminisce and socialize with classmates and friends. The other mission is to provide opportunities to graduating seniors through scholarships.
The first official Homecoming for the MHS-MUHS Alumni Association was on Sept. 14, 1985; it was held at the Middlebury Recreation Park. Since the inception of the association, scholarships have been given to sons and daughters of alumnus totaling over $45,000. The first year of the Hall of Fame saw 12 alumni inducted. Each year alumni are considered for induction to the Hall of Fame based upon achievements and service to community.
Membership dues are $25 for five years or $6 per year. Send your dues to P.O. Box 1034, Middlebury, VT 05753, in care of the MHS-MUHS Alumni Association, or look for association members at the many events over homecoming weekend. Association officials reiterated that they need the support of all alumni to continue to grow the association and provide many more opportunities to the Tiger alumnus and students.
