VERGENNES — Vergennes police last week cited an 18-year-old Panton resident for grand larceny and false pretenses, charges that stem from allegedly stealing more than $10,000 from Vergennes Union High School and Addison Northwest Supervisory Union.
Police allege that Justin Strona obtained the routing and checking account numbers for VUHS and used them to withdraw $7,356 in August 2013 and $3,000 more in January 2014. Police alleged Strona used the money to pay for tuition at Castleton State College.
City police also said they are continuing to investigate the case, believing that more money could be missing.
In other action between April 21 and 27, Vergennes police:
•  On April 21 responded to a one-car accident on Monkton Road in Ferrisburgh.
•  On April 21 dealt with a parking problem at Alden Place.
•  On April 22 ticketed the driver of a tractor-trailer truck for operating a vehicle over the legal weight limit on Monkton Road.
•  On April 22 responded to the John Graham Homeless Shelter to persuade a man to leave, an action taken at the request of shelter officials.
•  On April 23 went to the junction of New Haven Road and Spring Street to deal with two loose dogs.
•  On April 23 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Monkton Road.
•  On April 23 referred to the attorney general’s office a case of phone fraud reported by a Ferrisburgh resident.
•  On April 23 were told a car parked in Falls Park had been vandalized by having derogatory comments scratched into its paint.
•  On April 24 found a door at St. Peter’s Parish Hall unlocked and locked it after making sure the building was secure.
•  On April 24 spoke to the parents of young children at a Hillside Acres apartments playground who were reported to be threatening one another.
•  On April 25 checked a report of an uncontrolled fire burning on the Addison Eagles’ New Haven Road property, but found no problem.
•  On April 25 cited two Northlands Job Corps students for retail theft for allegedly taking four boxes of over-the-counter medication from Kinney Drugs. Cited were Marcus Rosa, 20, and Devin Sherman, 19; police said they are investigating the two in other thefts from the store.
•  On April 26 called the city’s animal control officer to deal with a dog running loose on School Street.
•  On April 26 issued two juveniles court diversion paperwork for possessing alcohol, an act taken at a traffic stop.
•  On April 27 began investigating an alleged assault at the City Limits bar; the victim said he had been hit, but could not be sure by whom. Police said they would talk to witnesses and review security footage.
•  On April 27 responded to a loud music complaint at a Hillside Acres apartment; police said the occupants would not come to the door and did not turn down the music, and they might issue a citation for disturbing the peace.
•  On April 27 returned to Hillside acres and dealt with neighbors involved in another dispute about noise, this time involving children.
