Trautwein leads Tiger track and field in Essex meet

ESSEX — Senior Jakob Trautwein won twice and junior Kaitlin Huber won once as the Middlebury Union High School track and field team competed on Thursday at a four-team meet hosted by Division I power Essex.
The Hornets swept to team victories in both the boys’ and girls’ overall competitions. The Essex boys scored 168 points, followed by Lyndon, 97; MUHS, 77; and Winooski, 15.
The Essex girls scored 263 points, with MUHS and Lyndon tied for second at 44, followed by Winooski at 5.
Trautwein, competing in his first varsity track meet, won both the boys’ javelin and discus and was second in the shot put. Huber won the girls’ 400-meter race and anchored the Tiger girls’ second-place four-by-four-hundred-meter relay team.
Also performing well for the Tiger boys was senior sprinter Nathan Peck, who picked up second and third places individually and ran on two second-place relay teams.

•  4×800: 2. M, 9:23.9 (Ferguson, David Dregallo, Garner, Moulton).
•  Triple jump: 2. Horning, 34’-3.
•  Shot put: 2. Trautwein, 35’-2”; 5. Nicholas Beauchamp, 34’-3”.
•  Discus: 1. Trautwein, M 99’-07”; 3. Beauchamp, 89’-5”.
•  Javelin: 1. Trautwein, M 135’-01”; 3. Chris Grier, 122’-2”; 5. Beauchamp, 102’-5”.
