MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School gymnastics team did not rack up any first-place finishes in its home meet vs. U-32 on Saturday, but the Tigers’ depth translated into a one-sided victory over the Raiders, 109.1-72.3, in a matchup of teams that normally compete at the Division II level.
Gymnastics, with few teams, does not recognize divisions in Vermont, but is dominated by larger Chittenden County schools with students who have easy access to year-round gymnastics clubs. The Tigers in recent years have fared well against other schools either outside of the hub of Chittenden County or more comparable in size.
They were set to host another such school, Milton, on Wednesday after the deadline for this edition of the Independent. Their final home meet is set for Jan. 29 in the Middlebury Union Middle School gym.
On this past Saturday, the Tigers were led by second- and third-place finishes from Lindsay Wells and Mikayla Robinson and second-place efforts from Bella Williams and Hannah Stoll. Wells, a senior, also picked up a third and a fourth.
