VERGENNES — Vergennes police are seeking more information on a Jan. 15 vandalism spree in which a half-dozen cars parked on School and East streets were damaged.
Police said the reports started coming in at about 7 a.m. that Wednesday morning, including of mirrors ripped off and paint scratched with keys, all apparently during the overnight hours.
Vergennes police are asking that anybody who might have heard or seen anything that night — or who has heard anybody discussing the incidents — call them at 877-2201.
In other action between Jan. 13 and 19, Vergennes police:
•  On Jan. 13 began investigating the theft of a shopper’s purse from a Main Street business.
•  On Jan. 13 took two reports of drivers passing stopped school buses; in both cases they are still tracking down the drivers, one with a Vermont plate, the other driving a commercial truck with a New Jersey plate.
•  On Jan. 13 looked unsuccessfully for a driver reported to be driving with a suspended license near the Small City Market; police said they still may issue a citation.
•  On Jan. 13 calmed a domestic argument at a Panton residence on behalf of Vermont State Police.
•  On Jan. 14 investigated an alleged assault at Northlands Job Corps at the request of center security; police said they could not gather enough evidence to issue a citation, in part because the alleged victim was uncooperative.
•  On Jan. 14 checked out a report of a domestic dispute at a Second Street home, but found no problem.
•  On Jan. 14 helped VSP try to find a juvenile who left a Panton home; police searched unsuccessfully during the night for almost four hours, but VSP found him the next morning.
•  On Jan. 14 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a Hillside Drive call.
•  On Jan. 14 dealt with a drunken man brought to the station by a friend for aid; police said the man’s blood-alcohol content tested at a dangerous level of 0.370; as a point of comparison, the legal level for driving is 0.08. They took him to the Act 1 detoxification center in Burlington, and then to the Chittenden County Correctional Center.
•  On Jan. 15 helped the state’s attorney’s office by serving subpoenas.
•  On Jan. 15 served a relief-from-abuse order to a West Main Street man and told him to leave the residence he was sharing with the alleged victim.
•  On Jan. 15 responded to a minor two-car accident on South Water Street.
•  On Jan. 16 helped a motorist get into a locked car on South Main Street.
•  On Jan. 16 referred to United Technology Corp. security a complaint about people improperly using the company’s handicap parking spaces.
•  On Jan. 16 following a complaint told the occupants of a car on Main Street to turn down loud music; they complied and apologized.
•  On Jan. 17 backed up Bristol police while they handled an assault case.
•  On Jan. 17 spoke to the driver of a car allegedly operating it without the owner’s consent, an action taken on behalf of Middlebury police. The driver refused to immediately return it.
•  On Jan. 18 called a post office keyholder to free an individual who had been accidentally locked into the building.
•  On Jan. 18 took a report that a resident had been the victim of an Internet scam.
•  On Jan. 19 helped Northlands security deal with two drunken female students, one of whom vomited into a trash can. Police issued court diversion paperwork to one underage student, and ultimately left both in the care of Northlands personnel. On that day, police also accepted confiscated marijuana from Northlands officials for disposal.
•  On Jan. 19 returned to Northlands to help VARS with a student who was reportedly combative, but found no problem on arrival.
•  On Jan. 19 ticketed a driver for possession of a small amount of marijuana after pulling his car over for pulling through a gas station to pass another car that was turning left.
