Middlebury Police Log: Out of control man taken to Porter Hospital

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of an out-of-control man at Middlebury College’s Mead Chapel on Hepburn Road on Jan. 12. Police said the man — who authorities perceived to be under the influence of some kind of stimulant drug — ran from the chapel.
Police said they caught him at the college library and then took him to Porter Hospital for treatment.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Investigated a combined total of three truancy complaints filed by Middlebury Union Middle School on Jan. 7 and 8.
•  Were informed that a car parked at John Graham Court had been vandalized on Jan. 7.
•  Assisted Vermont State Police in responding to a domestic dispute in Weybridge on Jan. 7.
•  Assisted rescue officials in tending to a Case Street man who was found breathing but unresponsive at his home on Jan. 8. Police said an officer provided first aid at the scene until the ambulance arrived and took the patient to Porter Hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose.
•  Warned some South Village Green residents to quiet down during the evening of Jan. 9.
•  Assisted rescue officials in getting a local, drunken woman to Porter Hospital on Jan. 9. The patient was initially uncooperative, according to police.
•  Investigated an animal neglect complaint at a Case Street home on Jan. 10. Police said some dogs had been left outside of the home. Police learned a family member was caring for the dogs while the owner was away.
•  Were informed on Jan. 10 of the recent theft of a Santa Claus cardboard cutout from Triangle Park.
•  Responded to an alleged embezzlement complaint at G. Stone Commercial on Foote Street on Jan. 10. Police continue to investigate the matter.
•  Warned a man for violating the town’s ordinance against public urination on College Street on Jan. 10.
•  Received a report about someone using a suspicious identification card to purchase alcohol at a Court Street store on Jan. 11.
•  Assisted Vermont Highway Department officials in closing Route 125 at Sand Hill Bridge, while they salted the road on Jan. 11.
•  Received a report that a PS3 electronic device had been stolen from a vehicle parked at John Graham Court on Jan. 12.
•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a Juniper Lane residence on Jan. 12.
•  Assisted a local man who on Jan. 12 reported being harassed by a female acquaintance. Police warned the woman to stop calling the man.
•  Warned some people who had been sleeping, without permission, in a vacant apartment on North Pleasant Street on Jan. 12.
•  Warned several drunken people to stop blocking traffic on Seymour Street Extension on Jan. 12.
•  Warned a man for violating the town’s open container law on Seymour Street Extension on Jan. 12.
•  Warned a man for littering on Pulp Mill Bridge Road on Jan. 12.
•  Warned a man for violating the town’s open container law on Adirondack View on Jan. 12.
