ADDISON COUNTY — A Ferrisburgh man landed in jail last Saturday after Vermont State Police cited him for domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Trooper Dempsey reported that on July 30 at about 8:30 p.m. Vergennes police conducted a motor vehicle stop that led to the discovery of a domestic assault that took place on Basin Harbor Road in Ferrisburgh. Dempsey alleged that investigation by VSP revealed that John Whiter, 32, of Ferrisburgh kicked his six month pregnant girlfriend in the head, causing her to lose consciousness and fall on the ground.
Whiter was lodged at the Chittenden Correctional Center and bail was set at $50,000.
Meanwhile, Vermont State Police last week reported that they are investigating several thefts around the county. VSP did not draw any connections among the thefts other than they all occurred in July.
On July 24 at 10 a.m. Trooper Joseph Szarejko responded to Quiet Lane in the Kampersville campground in Salisbury to investigate the theft from a vehicle of $100 cash along with a Rockford Fosgate stereo system with an amp valued at approximately $450. The stereo system and amp were both black and silver in color.
Three days later, Szarejko was called to investigate a reported burglary at a home on the Lincoln Gap Road in Lincoln that he said had occurred on July 7. The owner of the residence said an orange and yellow Can Andale bike was stolen along with approximately 150 CDs and $150 worth of lose change.
The next day, Trooper Kaitlyn Knight-Armstrong reported that she was investigating a theft from a Mountain Road home in Monkton. The complainant reported approximately 10 grey composite decking boards valued at $480 were stolen from her property on July 16.
Trooper Lewis Hatch reported that on July 29 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. a backpack, several electronic items and other goods where taken from a vehicle parked off Quaker Village Road in Weybridge.
Senior Trooper Andrew Leise reported that he is looking into the reported theft of 125 feet of No. 8 strand copper wire from a silo at a State’s Prison Hollow Road farm in Monkton in the early-morning of July 30.

In other recent activity, local VSP:
•  On July 28 at about 1:45 p.m. cited Michael Ballard, 50, of Shoreham for driving under the influence on Route 22A in Shoreham village. Trooper Busby reported that Ballard’s blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
•  On July 30 at a little after 5 p.m. responded to a report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a dog on Morgan Horse Farm Road in Weybridge. Trooper Hatch reported that Timothy Billings, 47, of Weybridge was driving a Yamaha V-Star motorcycle on the road, and he slowed down to go around a pedestrian and his dog. After passing the dog, Hatch said, Billings began to speed back up. The dog got away from the owner and ran into the roadway causing the operator to slam on his brakes, the trooper reported; the dog then ran into the front wheel of the motorcycle, causing the operator to loose control of it and tip over.
Billings and his passenger sustained minor lacerations and abrasions and went to Porter Hospital for treatment; and the motorcycle sustained a scratched front fender, headlight and mirror. The trooper said the dog was not badly injured in the accident.
