By Lee J. Kahrs

BRANDON — A prominent Brandon building is up for sale — the McKernon Group’s building at Park Village.

The Redstone Group is listing the headquarters of longtime Brandon builder Jack McKernon’s business for the first time this week, but Jan Smith, who is in charge of marketing for the company, said that the building is simply too big for the company’s needs now.

“We’ve got an awful lot of space here for the number of staff we have,” she said.

BRISTOL — As if health care reform weren’t shaping up as a tough enough challenge, lawmakers this session will participate in crafting a 2011-2012 state budget that is already facing a $176 million revenue shortfall.

Local legislators outlined some of the many looming budget challenges at a legislative breakfast on Monday at the Bristol American Legion headquarters.

House and Senate members are poring over a fiscal year 2012 budget draft that features a lot of cuts and some revenue adjustments.

MIDDLEBURY — It was August 2008 — deep in the heart of bike-riding, lawn-mowing season — when Goshen resident Dick Conrad found himself completely immobile. Almost overnight, his immune system had mistakenly attacked the nerves in his body, a result of the very rare Guillain-Barre syndrome.

After two-and-a-half years of rehabilitation, Conrad is relieved to count himself among the healthy again. But one need only step into Carol’s Hungry Mind Café in Middlebury to see that Conrad stayed busy even during his recovery period.
