Ferrisburgh optimistic on land sale

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard has yet to find a buyer for the town-owned 34.9-acre parcel at the junction of Routes 7 and 22A, but it recently met in a half-hour executive session with one interested party.

Minutes of the Oct. 2 meeting indicate that the board met behind closed doors with, among others, property listing agent Matt Tedder of Pomerleau Real Estate and Chad Farrell of Encore Redevelopment.

Ferrisburgh taxpayers see rates decrease

FERRISBURGH — Despite at least modest increases in town spending and in the Ferrisburgh Central School and Vergennes Union High School budgets, Ferrisburgh’s 2012-2013 property tax rates dropped from this past year.

Ferrisburgh’s new residential rate stands at $1.6276 per $100 of assed value — 10.58 cents lower than the 2011-2012 rate.

That decrease translates to a tax bill that is about $200 lower for a Ferrisburgh home assessed at $200,000, assuming its owners are not eligible for property tax relief.

Bolduc charged with murder of Bell

FERRISBURGH — A Burlington man today was charged with second-degree murder for taking the life of Conrad Bell, 40, of Vergennes during a confrontation at a bonfire in Ferrisburgh just before midnight on Friday night.

At a Monday afternoon arraignment  in Rutland Superior Court, Joseph Bolduc, 25, pled innocent to that charge as well as a number of other charges stemming from the aftermath of an incident in which Vermont State Police allege Bolduc struck Bell with a tire iron in the neck and caused his death.

Ferrisburgh subdivision could hit market

FERRISBURGH — About six years after the developers of the Pierce Woods received Ferrisburgh and state permits for their 21-lot planned residential development (PRD) off Stage Road, the lots have yet to be formally marketed.

But that status for what is the second-largest housing subdivision ever approved in Ferrisburgh could change in the coming months, according to town resident David Shlansky, one of the principals in the company that owns the land and is developing it.
