Body cameras lead Bristol to update police policies

BRISTOL — Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs on Monday updated the Bristol selectboard on his department’s policies, most notably changes in its Video/Audio/Still Recording Equipment Policy that were triggered by the department’s purchase of body cameras.

Town Administrator Therese Kirby said the previous policy was so outdated that it “used to refer to tapes.” The updated policy spells out how the digital footage and audio captured by the body cameras is stored, how it may be accessed, and who may access the material.

Orwell photographer charged with sexually assaulting a young girl

MIDDLEBURY — A professional photographer in Orwell pleaded innocent on Monday in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, to several child-related sex crimes — including the alleged aggravated sexual assault of a family member younger than 13.

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Repertory Theater (ART) will hold a gala and masquerade ball at the Vergennes Opera House at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, to mark two decades of minting new actors and theater technicians and to raise money to replenish a scholarship fund honoring one of the program’s beloved founders, Candace Burkle.

Middlebury OKs new park closing and junk regulations

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury selectboard at its Tuesday evening meeting voted 6-0 (with Selectman Brian Carpenter absent) in favor of some amendments to the town’s ordinance for the “daily closing of parks.”

Police celebrate Panton boy's honesty

VERGENNES — The City of Vergennes and the Vergennes Police Department on May 7 jointly presented a commendation to a young Panton resident for turning over to police money that he found immediately after a March 27 bank robbery in Vergennes.

Police said Isaac Preston, 8, came across three $20 bills near the Vermont Federal Employees Credit Union branch in the United Technologies Corp. building on Panton Road just after the robbery, showed them to his father, Eric Preston, and then gave them to a Vergennes police officer on the scene.
