VERGENNES — The Little City of Vergennes will be in full holiday spirit this season at the annual Holiday Stroll, scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 7, as well as other themed days of holiday cheer. Participants will enjoy a festive collection of activities ranging from a breakfast with Santa Claus at the Vergennes Union High School cafeteria to the 13th annual Winter Craft Fair at Vergennes Union Elementary School, to a stroll down Main Street ringing bells and singing songs with Santa and his elves.
MIDDLEBURY — A UD-3 committee has asked for cost estimates for a video camera system that would record activities in the hallways of Middlebury Union middle and high schools as a way of providing better security within those two buildings.
MIDDLEBURY — Bread Loaf Corp. on Tuesday unveiled the first detailed cost estimates for a new Middlebury municipal building and recreation center, placing the combined costs of those two projects at $7,204,000 — a figure that is roughly $700,000 more than the current construction budget of $6.5 million.
MIDDLEBURY — A Middlebury committee evaluating plans for new recreation and municipal office facilities has set Dec. 17 as the date on which it will recommend a preferred rec. center site to the town selectboard.
Until recently, the Middlebury Town Office & Recreation Facilities Steering Committee has been focusing on a single site for the proposed new, 11,507-square-foot recreation center: A portion of public recreation lands located near Mary Hogan Elementary School.
BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School principal Andy Kepes has told the school board, faculty and students he intends to resign at the end of the current school year.
Kepes, who has been principal for five years, said he has enjoyed his time at Mount Abraham, but that the principal’s office was not a good fit for him.
MIDDLEBURY — This past June, Addison canoe designer and builder Peter Macfarlane successfully completed a month-long solo paddle of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, a series of traditional waterways that span the northern forests from Old Forge in the south-western Adirondacks of New York State, across Lake Champlain, and on to Fort Kent on the St. John River in northern Maine. The trail features upstream and downstream paddling across small and large rivers, placid and white water, small ponds and large lakes.
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s basketball team won a pair of recent games to improve to 4-2. The Panthers, ranked No. 21 in this week’s NCAA Division III poll, will close their first semester with a 4 p.m. game at Skidmore on Saturday.
